This has all gone by so super quick. It is insane. But, alas, this Friday is the end of the first semester and the end of AP Studio Art. It has been a wonderful experience, and I enjoyed it very much.
Except for right now, hah.
I have soooooooooooooooo many things I need to do!
And I have not very many days (3) to do them.
Yayayayayay woooooo
But honestly, although I am loosely freaking out, it's all good. I am unsure when the next glaze firing will be happening, because the both ceramics classes are done with everything, so I may have to wait until next marking period's class ? or fire my stuff by itself. But, either way, that gives me a bit of jiggle room. I do, however want to be finished with all underglaze work by Thursday.

Last Week:
These pots popped out of the bisque firing, and they're looking good. The first three are my largest pots, (the ones I was freaking out about last post) and the others are little oddities. Oh, the last one is a larger pot as well.
I started working out ideas for these pieces. As you can see I started to sketch on the second pot.

I feel like I need to put my concentration up here, I need to be reminded of it:
"Variety of ceramic work that exemplifies the conflict between the individual and society, represented through figure and form."

Thoughts have been rolling around in my washing machine brain.
What causes people to obey?
What causes people to unite around a certain person or idea?
Will chaos ultimately result in order?
Do people need a higher power to submit to?

Pot untitled, "why did I do this?"
This pot is in the glaze fire right this minute. I am unsure of how it will come out. The process of making this was so irksome and ridicuous. *LOL* (but actually I'm sobbing) I sponteously glazed the whole pot black (my first mistake). And then I decided to go back into it and carve out the design. What a great idea, Emmy! *snickers*
So that took forever.
And then I glazed the carved out areas with white glaze, then I put wax resist on top of that to prevent the black glaze from running onto the white. I am intensely crossing my fingers that it will be effective. But who knows??? At best, it will be a wonderful piece. At worse, I guess I'll chalk it up to experience and vow to never do anything as ridulous again. Wait, nevermind, I think I'm gonna do that regardless of how it comes out. This pot took me three days (3 class periods, so roughly 6 hours) to complete. Wow. I can't believe that's how long it took. That is legitimately insane.
But here's the meaning behind it:
When there is chaos, people tangle and converge. But they unite around key figures. These 'key figures' are represented by the dots and rectangle glazed in deep firebrick. People riot and act out in revolution, maybe to speak out for change or conform to the madness. Ultimately, somethiing will happen. When people rebel against society, something will change, if the cause is deeply, emotionally charged. However, I believe, this mass chaos would not have the organized strategy to actively make change, or the greatest change without a key individual. People need someone/thing to rely on, to believe in, to support. This individual becomes a higher power, a figurehead and image to what the chaos fights for. Think of MLK Jr., V.I. Lenin, Mao Ze Dong. Perhaps, the movements behind these individuals would have had profound impacts regardless, however, there is no denying that these three people had tremenous amounts of power and led to an organized change. If not for these three specific individuals, would the revolutions of the people have any power? Could the people unite?
I am sure, or as sure as one can be I suppose, that if V.I. Lenin didn't exist, another key figure would have emerged and carried the revolution. It may have idealogical differences, and varying outcomes, however the key point is that the people would have been unsuccessful without a leader and so, a leader would come to exist.
So that took forever.

This Week:
On a more positive note, this is the stuff I have been working on this week. Been busy with underglaze, as usual. I am very excited for these. Trying out a different yellow this time. I'll elaborate more on the meaning behind these guys on another post.
Still deciding what to do with this big ole dude:
I ought to measure the dimensions of this papa. It is really big! Biggest pot I have ever made, to date. It's taking me forever to decide what to put on this pot because it is such a milestone piece and I don't want to screw it up!!!!
Hope you have a great day and check back soon :)
