Recently I've been finding some great art pages on Instagram. That's how I discover the coolest ceramicist, Eric Landon. Eric is the founder of Tortus Copenhagen, handmade ceramics shop located in Copenhagen, Denmark. He grew up in the United States and later moved to Denmark after college. Inspired by traditional Danish pottery, he creates beautiful forms on the potter's wheel. What I particularly love about Landon is his simplicity in his forms. His technique and style have greatly impacted my own. The photos below are all taken from his Instagram, which you should definitely check out!! It's pretty dang amazing!
My second top artist is Jean Michel Basquiat, a neo-expressionist painter and street graffiti artist. I first discovered Basquiat in Advanced Drawing and Painting, where I was assigned to create a self-portrait in his style. Although it was challenging to emulate Basquiat's free and expressive style, the project taught me to loosen up as an artist and try new styles! Basquiat's style continues to influence my own. The first five photos below are some examples of Basquait's artwork (also some of my favorites), and the sixth photo is my finished self-portrait.
